Best Design Awards 2024 - Spatial (Private, Public and Institutional Spaces) - Silver Pin
Description
The Tauranga Boys’ College redevelopment centered on the delivery of a new two-storey, 12-teaching space block designed to meet surging roll growth requirements. Our Mechanical design implemented high-efficiency ventilation and HVAC systems featuring smart zoning, allowing the school to maintain optimal air quality across flexible learning areas and collaborative breakout zones. We provided a comprehensive Electrical and Communications package, integrating advanced lighting controls and high-density data infrastructure to support modern digital pedagogies. The Hydraulic scope included significant stormwater improvements designed to mitigate historical flooding on the lower playing fields, as well as a modernized reticulation network for the new teaching and commercial-grade kitchen facilities. By utilizing BIM for multidisciplinary coordination, our engineers integrated complex services within a constrained footprint on the Devonport Road frontage, ensuring the new block functions as a seamless extension of the existing campus infrastructure. This project highlights our ability to deliver resilient, MoE-compliant services that balance intensive operational demands with high-end architectural outcomes. Through precise engineering, we have helped the college provide a future-proofed facility that supports over 2,100 students in a healthy, sustainable environment.
