Description
Pearson House stands as the historic gateway to The Foundation, Auckland’s premier luxury retirement precinct overlooking the Auckland Domain. The 13-month intensive restoration involved a complete seismic upgrade and the meticulous refurbishment of its Neo-Georgian architecture, including the reinstatement of its iconic ground-floor colonnade. Our building services engineering was critical in retrofitting modern functionality into the sensitive heritage envelope without compromising its aesthetic integrity.
The ground floor now features a high-end café, drawing rooms, and reading rooms, while the upper level has been transformed into a boutique cinema, art studio, billiard room, and a state-of-the-art wellbeing suite. A key technical triumph included the integration of full active fire protection and climate control systems within highly constrained heritage ceiling and underfloor spaces.
Specialized work also involved the precision dismantling and seismic-safe reinstallation of the original brick chimneys, a testament to the project's commitment to craftsmanship. By harmonizing traditional English-inspired interiors with contemporary mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems, the project ensures this architectural treasure remains a vibrant, functional asset for generations to come.
