The HERA Innovation Centre is a pioneering two-story, 360m² extension designed to drive innovation within New Zealand's heavy engineering sector. The project's core mission is sustainability, targeting a 6-Star Green Star Design & As Built certification—a first-of-its-kind for a building assessed against "Planetary Accounting" boundaries.
We provided comprehensive building and sustainability design services, including detailed Greenhouse Gas Emissions energy modelling, thermal comfort analysis, and daylight assessments. A key feature is the integration of on-site solar photovoltaic (PV) panels and an innovative rainwater harvesting system that uses permeable pavement technology for effective stormwater management. The building showcases locally sourced steel as the primary structure and includes architectural features like a bespoke steel staircase and 5.7m high Corten steel entrance doors. Our services ensure high indoor environment quality, integrating optimal acoustics, lighting, and visual comfort to foster productivity. This project serves as a practical demonstration of how cutting-edge technology and responsible practices can coexist, providing a future-proofed hub for research and advanced manufacturing.
