Description
We provided specialized building services design to support the establishment of the BioViros Physical Containment Level 2 (PC2) laboratory, a landmark facility for vaccine and gene therapy research. This project required an uncompromising approach to mechanical engineering to meet the stringent international standards for biocontainment and sterile manufacturing. Our HVAC design focused on maintaining strict pressure gradients to ensure that air always flows from clean to potentially contaminated zones, preventing any accidental release of biological agents. We implemented high-efficiency HEPA filtration systems and precise temperature and humidity controls to provide the stable environment necessary for sensitive viral vector production. The electrical infrastructure was engineered for maximum resilience, featuring integrated backup power systems to protect critical research assets and 24/7 incubator operations. Our communications and security design included advanced monitoring and access control systems to maintain the integrity of the containment zone.
We also delivered a specialized laboratory gas reticulation system, ensuring the safe and reliable delivery of medical-grade gases to workstations and specialized equipment. Fire protection and life safety systems were meticulously tailored to the PC2 environment, ensuring rapid response while maintaining the airtight integrity of the laboratory seals. Throughout the project, we collaborated closely with BioViros and Callaghan Innovation to ensure the facility was fully compliant with the Ministry for Primary Industries (MPI) and EPA regulations. Our team provided construction oversight to verify that all high-performance systems were installed and commissioned to their exact technical specifications. This project stands as a testament to our capability in delivering mission-critical infrastructure for the most advanced sectors of the biotechnology industry.
